In June 2016, Editorial CSIC updated its Guide to Good Practice [1] , which further elaborates on the importance of publishing original and unpublished content and on the responsibilities of both authors and editorial teams in the face of plagiarism, self-plagiarism and redundant or duplicate publication practices. Traditionally, journals rely on the knowledge of the members of their editorial and advisory boards, management teams and, of course, external reviewers, as the main source for assessing the originality of a text under evaluation. Today, we have tools such as Crossref Similarity Check that make this complex task easier for editors. In January 2017, all scientific journals published by CSIC started using this tool, managed through the iThenticate platform, which allows them to submit the texts received to a comparison with other already published documents obtained through three different ways.
