Use of the H Index for the evaluation of scientific production

When the H-index appeared, it was received with interest, but also with considerable skepticism, by many scientists; it was not very clear to them whether this new way of evaluating their work was indeed more objective than a simple citation count, since the new index was born with the pretension of evaluating both the quantity and the quality of scientific production.
