Abstract

The Institute for Innovation and Knowledge Management INGENIO (CSIC-UPV) was created in November 1999 as a joint institute of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV). INGENIO (CSIC-UPV) develops its activities within the framework of a unique line of research, called "innovation studies", with special emphasis on two interrelated topics: innovation policies, i.e. the role of the public sector in the management and promotion of knowledge generation and diffusion, and in the promotion of innovation; and the local dynamics of knowledge generation and application, i.e. the relationships that the agents involved in innovation establish between them.
