Abstract

Archives have not occupied an important position in the scale of values of Public Administrations. Libraries and museums have always been ahead of them, as these centres are much more useful as a cultural service to society. If we add to this aspect, which is a reality, the deep economic crisis that we are experiencing, archives are definitely relegated to the “last in line”. Even though this is the situation, at the beginning of 2012 I had the opportunity to start working in the Scientific Information Resources Unit for Research (URICI) as the person responsible for the “Archives Coordination”. There is a lot of work to do and the lack of resources is significant, despite this, new ideas and small projects can always be developed to try to improve the service that we, information professionals, provide within the institutions in which we work. Along these lines I will try to summarise the most important developments in the field of archives that we have been developing to date.
