Abstract

The library of the “Miguel A. Catalán” Physics Centre (CFMAC) serves three Institutes in the field of Physical Sciences: the Institute of the Structure of Matter, the “Daza de Valdés” Institute of Optics and the Institute of Fundamental Physics. The library was created in 1995 and has been adapted to the changes that have occurred in the Institutes and the restructuring of their respective libraries over time. Its creation is due to the merger of the libraries of the “Daza de Valdés” Institute of Optics (founded in 1947) and the library of the Institute of Mathematics and Fundamental Physics (founded in 1994). The latter, in turn, was the heir to the library of the “Jorge Juan” Institute of Mathematics (created in 1939) and to all this is added the collections of books and magazines of the Institute of the Structure of Matter (created in 1976). In 2010, the Mathematics Institute became independent from the CFMAC, moving to the Autonomous University Campus in Madrid, taking with it a large part of the mathematics collections in the Library.
