Abstract

On October 25 and 26, 2013, the XVII Andalusian Library Conference was held in Jaén, organized by the Andalusian Association of Librarians, under the motto “Bringing people together, uniting paths.” The Conference, with the majority participation of public libraries, and especially municipal libraries, focused on the responses of the library community to the current budgetary and staff restrictions, which are felt in a particularly serious way in public libraries. How to manage the available resources so as not to diminish the quality of services, how to address the changes of all kinds that libraries are undergoing, and especially how to improve the visibility of libraries so that society perceives them as an essential service, were topics that appeared repeatedly.
