Abstract

The classification table is the basic tool and key element of any document management system. All known initiatives in the field of archival standardisation for the organisation and description of collections are based on the backbone of the “classification table”, because other processes such as description, selection, assessment or access can be developed from it. Standards such as UNE-ISO 15489-1 (2005) or the “Model of requirements for the management of electronic documents”, promoted by the European Commission, consider this instrument as essential for organising documents both in traditional media (paper) and electronic and digital media.
