Abstract

Since 2008, the library of the Institute of Marine Research (IIM) has carried out various activities to promote the institutional repository among the centre's researchers, encouraging them to send their work once published. The undeniable advantages of open access to research results, due to its immediacy and increased visibility and impact, as well as the elimination of economic barriers that hinder access to information, have contributed to raising awareness among researchers about the importance of depositing their work in the institutional repository. We must not forget, in addition, the legal mandates that require the publication of a digital version of the results of research funded with public funds, such as the Law on Science or the 7th Framework Programme of the European Commission, which in our centre affects the Carbochange project, in force since 2012, which is carried out in collaboration with the Institute of Marine Sciences of Andalusia.
