Abstract

The Spanish School of History and Archaeology in Rome (EEHAR) is a CSIC institute with a history of more than 100 years, having been established by the Junta para Ampliación de Estudios (JAE) in 1910, a time when the Italian capital was already home to other international centres and acted as a centre of attraction for intellectuals for the exchange of ideas and the knowledge of new scientific methods. The EEHAR has a library that until now had its collections described in the collective catalogue of the Unione Romana Biblioteche Scientifiche (URBS); this fact was mainly due to the fact that at the time of the automation of the CSIC libraries, in the mid-1980s, communications did not allow for adequate remote work, so a local solution was chosen that would make it easier for the EEHAR to have its collections automated in a nearby environment, since URBS brings together several libraries from foreign academic institutions in Rome. Today the situation is very different with communications; Furthermore, the EEHAR is undergoing a process of renewal that has led to a change of headquarters and a rethinking of its objectives, both scientific and organizational. This new project also includes the library, which is intended to be given greater projection, so it seemed appropriate to integrate its bibliographical collections into CIRBIC and for the EEHAR library to become a fully active member of the CSIC Libraries and Archives Network.
