Abstract

The impact of the social web on the transmission of information and communication between people is so great that libraries cannot and should not stand aside and waste all the possibilities it offers. In this article we want to present how the social web has been applied in the Tomás Navarro Tomás Library (BTNT) and how it has turned social networks into an ally to increase its visibility. At present, the library continues to seek new formulas to make the most of its tools by promoting knowledge of its bibliographic collection and its archive funds. The BTNT, belonging to the CSIC Library and Archive Network, is a research library in the areas of humanities and social sciences (HCS). Despite the interest of its funds and the volume [1] of its collection, the BTNT has not yet reached the level of diffusion and impact that would correspond to a library of its importance, specialty and size. This was one of the reasons that led the BTNT to consider taking advantage, from the beginning, of the opportunities offered by the tools of the social web.
