DSpace is an open source software designed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and HP Labs that preserves and allows open access to all types of digital content (text, images, audiovisual, data sets, etc.). Publications and materials are deposited as items, through the assignment of metadata, and are structured in collections that in turn form part of communities, making their dissemination and greater visibility possible. This software, which allows the management of digital collections, is generally used to develop institutional repositories. DSpace is the software that Digital.CSIC uses to organize, preserve and disseminate CSIC research results in open access. It has gone from version 1.6 to 4.3, with a new design, performance improvements and functionalities for users.
