The evaluation of scientific activity in institutions and the catalogue of bibliometric indicators of the URICI in the CSIC

Bibliometrics was originally limited to the collection of data on the number of scientific articles and other publications, classified by author, by institution, by field of science, by country, etc., in order to construct simple indicators of scientific research productivity. Later, more sophisticated and multidimensional indicators were developed based on citations in articles and also on patents. The resulting citation indices and maps of science constructed from co-citation analyses are used both to obtain more sensitive measures of research quality and to trace the development of scientific disciplines. Currently, the discipline has multiple lines of work: new impact indicators continue to be developed, the phenomenon of scientific collaboration is studied through the analysis of social networks based on co-authorship in works, new usage indicators based on Web 2.0 are incorporated, etc.
