The Tomás Navarro Tomás Library (BTNT) was founded in 2008 and began the digitalisation process at the end of 2009. At that time, the digital objects were mostly linked to the records and available in the collective catalogue of the CSIC library network, CIRBIC. The dispersion of the digital collection in the catalogue encouraged the library a few months later to create conTexto, a portal born from the desire to offer its digital collection together when Simurg did not yet exist.
