Abstract

Penelope Fitzgerald (1916-2000) published The Bookshop in 1978, a novel that takes us to Hardborough, a small British village where everyone knows each other and time passes slowly. Florence Green decides, not without several problems, to buy and settle in Old House, an old, damp and hostile property to open a bookstore in this town, which is identified by having nothing beyond some basic survival stores.
