Abstract

Early September 2018 saw the publication of Plan S, a plan led by the European Commission's Special Envoy for Open Access, Robert Jan Smits, and Science Europe to drive the advancement of immediate open access in Europe through 10 principles. Plan S is a compilation of principles whose implementation is currently being discussed in a draft action plan. Although born as a European initiative and focused on scientific funding agencies, Plan S has the ambition to receive the widest possible support from the global scientific community.
