It is commonplace that new information technologies and remote access to collections have transformed libraries and their services as we knew them a little more than a couple of decades ago. First, in the 1990s, libraries embarked on the computerization of their collection and the management of processes and services with the creation of their computerized catalogs. Then, from the 2000s onwards, the transformation of information supports took place and digital collections began to appear as a new information resource to be managed and with it a new business model. Finally, and partly due to this process of digital transformation of information products, the third important change took place, the appearance of the documentary dilemma in which we now find ourselves, that is, the management of collections and research results in an environment that, not without tension, seeks to evolve from closed to open.
